EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES

We provide ambulance standby services with fully equipped personnel certified to respond to any type of medical emergency where rapid access to patients can be challenging due to over-crowding. Our resources at these venues are generally required to standby for the care of participants, but may also be involved in treating sick or injured members of the public. We contract standby services to a variety of one-day or multi-day events.

MEDICAL RESCUE FIXED-WING SERVICES

Medical Rescue clients have access to a dedicated Beechcraft King Air 200 pressurized aircraft which covers the entire country extending regionally to cover calls for assistance outside of national borders.

The air ambulance is permanently equipped and allows for the treatment and transportation of all types of patients, including the critically ill, neonates, cardiac patients, trauma patients as well as ventilator-dependent patients to a hospital. The Medical rescue air ambulance is based at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone and is on standby 24 hours a day.

Our crew consists of doctors, ALS paramedics or flight nurses. In the Okavanago delta region, we have dedicated paramedics and small, light aircrafts which are based in Maun and are used to evacuate patients from the delta. Where feasible, one family member may be allowed to accompany the patient on the aircraft. A ground ambulance is provided on either side of the air evacuation. A request for an air evacuation is done through the emergency line 992. Access to a helicopter can be arranged where access by fixed wing is not possible.

HOSPITAL TO HOSPITAL TRANSFER

In instances where a patient requires a higher level of care than their current hospital can provide, MRI Botswana can arrange appropriate transportation to a hospital that will provide the patient the adequate level of care.  Hospital transfers are done by advanced and intermediate life support ambulances. The hospital transfers can occur within Botswana as well as internationally i.e. Botswana and South Africa.
